WHO Technical Advisory Group – candidate vaccine prioritization: summary of the evaluations and recommendations on the four Marburg vaccines

Overview

To date four candidate vaccines have been evaluated at meetings that took place between 20 February and 30 March 2023, with a further meeting on 17 October 2024 to review additional data for two of the candidate vaccines. In November 2025, updates on the two most advanced candidates were provided to the TAG-CVP Chair to assess whether any revision to the existing recommendations was required. The TAG-CVP members were asked to make a recommendation after each meeting as to whether the candidate vaccine(s) were suitable for inclusion in the trial. They assessed safety and potential for efficacy based on the following criteria:

• safety
• potential for efficacy
• availability and implementation
• evidence available
• doses of candidate vaccines available.
